Has anyone ever asked AMD what the difference is, between MP and XP?
Well, I did.. Here is the answer I received:
The Athlon MP is a derivative of AMD's 0.18-micron-process Palomino core, which is already available in the mobile Athlon 4 and as the Athlon XP. The basic core enhancements amount to improved cache performance, lower voltage requirements, and a full SSE-compatible instruction set. What you see with the Athlon 4 and Athlon XP is what you'll get with the Athlon MP; the main difference is in the area of support, as only the Athlon MP receives the extensive validation testing required for AMD to certify it for use in SMP systems.
Looks like all the validation testing I have done, makes my two Athlon 'XP's, 'MP''s...
